date : 2nd March 09
time : around 8.30am
place : biology lab
excitement : frog disection!
7.40am, perhimpunan....
Mr. Foong : i took mr.tan's chemistry period, so after this, u all go straight to the bio lab
me : disect frog ar?
Mr Foong : yes yes. so, after this, don't waste time, straight to the bio lab.
me : yay!
perhimpunan was s'pose to end by 8am, but somehow, all the teachers were menopausing in the morning. there were lots of yelling, screaming and also hand gesture, i meant the 'if u break the rules, get out of the school!' kind of gesture. so this whole thing dragged on to 8.30am.
after perhimpunan, i rushed up to class got my camera and all set, ready to get down n bloody.
8.40am, bio lab
Mr. Foong : after this, i don't want to hear anymore sound effects. u all are bio students, so no more screaming. and don't act manja. u noe...yang O
so the start of the disection, i will bring u thru, step by step.
the frogs, unconscious due to lots n lots of chloroform. so amongst the frogs, there was an extremely large one, given by the frog farmer to Mr. Foong to do the demo.
this frog is twice the size of our frog.
next...pull the skin up n cut a tiny hole at the center of the abdomen.
pull the skin up and use the scissors and cut the frog's skin from the abdomen to the throat.
then pull the skin apart, using the scissors, cut the skin to the underarms of the frog.
use the scalpel and forceps to pull the skin of the body of the frog.
a nice fleshy part of the frog will be exposed.
same with the skin, pull the flesh up and cut a small hole. careful not to cut any of the organs.
use the scisors and cut the flesh from the abdomen to the sternum.
cut out the sternum also.
of course, if the lung is ballooning damn big inside the frog, u might wanna before cuz the lungs might POP out suddenly.
do the same to flesh as to the skin. all the organs would be exposed nicely...if u dont accidently cut anything.
den, we're s'pose to identify the organs in the frog...
and whether it got an ovary or testes
remove all the organs, from esophagus to the end of the alimentary canal.
count the nerves, there s'pose to be 10 pairs.
and lastly, we r to skin the frogs legs to check out its tendons.
important facts:
-make sure the bloody frog is bloody unconscious.
-if the frog is alive, end its life. Mr. Foong took a sharp instrument and stab it in, thru under its mouth to its brain in my half-alive frog
-if the frog still moves, don't scream, its normal
-if the frog croaks, it's probably saying help me in frog language
-if after removing all the organs including the heart, the frog still moves, its muscular contraction.
-make sure the pin is pinned properly, so that the frog wont wake up and start jumping around with its stomach and intestines exposed.
-dont cut the rectum! dont cut the rectum! its faeces smells like 'heaven'
coolest thing:
-although the bloody frog is dead, its heart is still pumping
-although u cut out the heart, its still pumping!
chest wide, organs nicely placed
frog pinned out wide, organs removed, skin removed. kinda look like the Vitruvian man, froglike vitruvian 'man'
the team.
